The Difference Between Beefing In The 90’s & Beefing In The Modern Era By Redman

What’s Beef? The Notorious B.I.G. told us in 1997 “beef is when I see you,” but in today’s world issues between rappers is more likely to play out on social media than in the streets.

Legendary emcee Redman had a firsthand view of Hip Hop conflicts in the 1990’s. While speaking with The Breakfast Club, Reggie Noble reflected on how rap clashes have changed since his arrival in the culture.

“90’s era was aggressive. We didn’t have the internet to talk crap through. When we said we was gonna get you, we was gonna get you. And that meant being at your shows,” stated Redman. “When you’re doing your practice before the show, we’d meet you at your sound check. This is real. It wasn’t no backing out of it.”

As an example, Red mentioned KRS-One throwing PM Dawn off their own stage back in 1992. The Def Squad member also explained at that time disputes were usually ignited by word of mouth among the Hip Hop community.

“When you heard about someone having beef with you, it would circulate real quick, because everyone knew each other,” added Redman. “We didn’t have that many channels. So when you heard someone talked about you, it was quickly addressed.”

Redman’s latest album Mudface is in stores today.

Mayden Hollywood Wins Best Song Category Of Best Of British Unsigned 2015 Awards

Mayden Hollywood’s pop-rock song “Hollywood” won the 2015 Best of British Unsigned (BoB Unsigned) listener vote for best song. “Hollywood” was voted first on a list of ten nominated songs. More than 2000 BoB Unsigned fans gave Mayden Hollywood’s song 35% of the vote. During the week long campaign, votes for “Hollywood” came around the globe from Mayden’s home

Mayden’s hometown of Birmingham, England, to his current one in Los Angeles.
BoB Unsigned founder Matt Graveling said, “Mayden has an incredible pop-rock sound which is perfect for today’s industry. This song is polished and bang on trend.

We believe it can provide the perfect launch pad for a successful career”. Mayden hopes the Best Song Award will be of significant help as he plans a U.S. tour branching out from Los Angelis to cities such as New York, Miami and New Orleans. He said, “I work so hard. To be recognized is an honor”. The song tells the story of the difference between Hollywood’s celebrated image and the up and down fortunes of many who live there.

Mayden Hollywood is a British born American song writer and producer, was brought up listening to rock and hip-hop music and was inspired by artists such as Iggy Pop, Aerosmith and The Cure. He moved back to the U.S. in 2008 to pursue his dream of becoming a recording artist.
The Unsigned Music Awards were started in 2012 by Best of British Unsigned, the number one unsigned music website in the United Kingdom (UK) which provides weekly radio shows to 70 FM stations in 15 countries. The 2015 Awards were sponsored by Julian Richer, the founder of Richer Sound, the largest hi-fi retailer in the UK.

This year a follow-up to the fan vote was added, the Critics’ Choice Awards. These will be judged by Huey Morgan, Fun Lovin’ Criminals front man and presenter for BBC 6, Max Helyer who is guitarist for the rock band You Me at Six and the staff of the music magazine “Q”.
While discussing their Critics’ Choice judging assignments, Huey Morgan said, “If those of us who have jumped into the deep end don’t report back to the next generation what we have experienced, we would be remiss in our endeavor”; and Max Helyer said, “New music is the lifeblood of our industry, and being the first to see the stars of tomorrow is something all true music fans are passionate about”.

Mayden Hollywood is hoping to follow his Best Song Award with one from the Critic’ Choice later this month.
Besides Best Song, the other 2015 award categories for Best of British Unsigned were Best Band and Best Male and Female vocalist.

New Release: Estee Nack & Purpose (of Tragic Allies) "When I Get High"

Taken off the long awaited album '14 Forms: The Book of Estee Nack', by the Tragic Allies frontmen Estee Nack & Purpose.

Entirely produced by Purpose (Tragic Allies, 7 G.E.M.S., Tragedy Khadafi, Killah Priest, Paranom, Big Shug, Singapore Kane, etc.). Available worldwide June 23rd (CD/cassette/digital) on Ill Adrenaline Records, distribution by Fat Beats.

Growing up in the streets of Lynn, Massachusetts, there are very few artists who genuinely preserve the essence of hip-hop in its golden age... This is where hip-hop collaborative Tragic Allies have been able to set themselves apart from their peers throughout the years.
In 2015, Tragic Allies are delivering yet another gift to the legacy of the golden age.
This time the Allies frontmen Estee Nack and Purpose come together with plans on further solidifying their Tragic Allies brand as a dominant force in hip-hop with their new full length offering, "14 Forms: The Book of Estee Nack", set to be released on underground powerhouse Ill Adrenaline Records.

After making notable appearances on Tragic Allies classic debut album "The Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil" as well as 2013's underground smash album 7 G.E.M.S. (Tragic Allies & Tragedy Khadafi) "Golden Era Music Sciences", an ideologically refreshed Estee Nack drops what he considers to be his testament of truth, justice and righteousness unto those – who like him (1st generation American born to immigrants from the Dominican Republic) – were raised combating the daily trials and tribulations of survival in minority-majority, low-income neighborhoods.

Nack lets us know how serious he is about preserving the purity of his overall message by handling all the mic work on the entire album, equipping his rugged vocal delivery to manifest topics ranging from the struggle and pride of immigrants (particularly Dominicans) in America and abroad, to his ideas on the social structure, fake friends, sex, and the science of the universe.

The front-to-back play-worthy musical backdrops are ingeniously mapped by Purpose who continues to carve his legacy as a great producer, after providing stellar production on the previously released 7 G.E.M.S. and Paranom albums, offering a folk-like array of dark, funky basslines, dusty drum patterns and mellow-dreary melodic landscapes that – while remaining grimy and dark (true to the Purpose influenced Tragic Allies sound) – are reminiscent to a more grassroots sound, if not a deep inner city blues.

This year, Tragic Allies continue to hit hard with Purpose and Nack's MC/production styles blending as perfectly as expected, drawing listeners up into a trance like state, inspiring feelings of laughter, pride, sadness, anger, love and revolution per the trademark Tragic Allies sound.

[ Music ] Check out @AaronCohenRap's new EP - HOME LESS

One of Aaron Cohen's darkest songs to date, "Booyakah" is about avoiding the pain of reality.

It's about closing your eyes and retreating into your own mind in order to overcome the difficulties and contradictions in life.

Whether through art, drugs, sex, or simply imagination, we all need to escape every once in awhile.

The track marks the second collaboration between Cohen and Alexander Spit.

Spit's dark and progressive style compliments the Coopatroop production and Cohen's more melodic flow.

The pair linked previously on Cohen's "You Wouldn't Know" and felt a follow up was in order.
"Booyakah" is the first single off of Cohen's upcoming Home Less EP which drops June 2.

Friction releases powerful song to motivate ghetto youth

A couple of months after Friction released the catchy  lovers rock reggae song ‘I Love You’ featuring CASiTA, he is out again with another powerful reggae song: ‘Ghetto Youth’.

‘Ghetto Youth’ is produced by one of Ghana’s best producers, Zapp Mallet, and features the famous Ghanaian reggae artist Blakk Rasta.

The song consists of a very inspirational message to all the youths growing up in a challenging environment.

Blakk Rasta
Friction knew from the beginning that he wanted Blakk Rasta to feature on this song. “I have always followed his moves in reggae music. And I know Blakk Rasta has always been a very positive role model to ghetto youths himself, focussing on his education and inspiring others to do so as well. So I felt like he would fit perfectly in this reggae song and the conscious message of it.”

About Friction
Friction is known for his mix of reggae and afropop, and for his many accomplishments in the international music scene. As a teenager he founded the group VIP (Vision in Progress), one of Ghana’s most popular music groups. After being their frontman for a couple of years he went solo, and continued to follow his musical visions.

In 2006 he got admitted to the Dutch Music University ‘The Rockacademy’, as the first African artist ever. Over the years, Friction has performed on a lot of festivals in Europe, his songs have got worldwide airplay, he was the support act of the legendary I Jan Man Levi and Morgan Heritage, and he has appeared in several radio and tv shows, such as the Dutch X Factor and the talkshow De Wereld Draait Door.
In 2013 Friction released the reggae-single ‘Life is not easy’ featuring Guru, which got nominated in three categories on the Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall Bass Awards and is still being praised worldwide for its recognizable message and accompanying video.

A couple of months ago, Friction released the lovers rock reggae song ‘I Love You’ featuring award winning soul singer CASiTA. The song and video are still receiving worldwide airplay, and even got Cocoa Tea reaching out to Friction on twitter, praising the song.

Growing up in the ghetto himself, and now having his music played on stations such as BBC Radio, MTV Base and Channel O, and performing with his band all over Europe,  Friction is a perfect example of a ‘ghetto youth’ who has come far in life. And therefor, without a doubt, he surely will get his message across to a lot of kids who are struggling in life.
Be on the lookout for the video of ‘Ghetto Youth’ which will be out soon!

KRS-One Says Being A Part Of America Was Never A Goal For Those In His Generation

After being asked about the connection between the social context, political context, and the official birth of Hip Hop in the 70s, during an interview with Vlad TV, KRS-One addressed a number of topics including the lack of respect for Hip Hop in America, Public Enemy’s pull on revolutionary white kids, and more.

The Bronx, New York lyricist started off by stating that being a part of America was never a goal for those in his generation. He then questioned why he has to currently travel to a country like Switzerland to make money as a Hip Hop artist.

According to KRS-One, Hip Hop is more accepted by the government in a place like Switzerland than it is in the United States.

“Our parents were on their hands and knees begging to be a part of America,” KRS-One said. “We were never part of that, ever…Blacks and Latinos get it the worst. We get it the worst in America.
But the white people in America too started looking. And just a sense of justice. Was just like ‘Wait a minute, why is it like this if it should be like this?’ And this is when Hip Hop exploded. With Public Enemy who was representing Minster Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam. And their whole audience was white kids…You can tell that the government here [Switzerland] is lenient towards Hip Hop. Towards it elements. Breaking in the street, graffiti on the wall, people rapping.
[post_ad]
I can’t make money in America. Why am I here? It’s 2013, okay. Why is KRS in Switzerland and not in Ohio…The political leadership of Ohio don’t respect me.”

KRS-One also spoke on one of the founders of Hip Hop, Afrika Bambaataa. While speaking on Bambaataa, the rapper revealed that Hip Hop wasn’t as impromptu as a network like MTV might have led people to believe, and was instead a deliberate and carefully planned out movement.

“What built this movement, what made this all come together is a guy names Afrika Bambaataa,” he said. “He is the sole author of Hip Hop’s cultural existence.

I’m called an architect of Hip Hop culture cause I popularized it. But Afrika Bambaataa is the first one to tell all of us, ‘Let’s come together under this banner called Hip Hop. And we gon’ call ourselves Zulu Nation.

But really, it’s Hip Hop. It’s this new thing that we’re gonna cause in the world.’ It was deliberate. Hip Hop was never a mistake…Those principles: peace, unity, love, and having fun. Became the principles for this new culture called Hip Hop. Afrika Bambaataa would meet with us regularly.

This was no haphazard thing. We just rapping on the corner. That’s MTV’s history. Real Hip Hop history is Afrika Bambaataa sitting everybody down and saying ‘Listen, all this black, white, red, yellow is stupid. We’re all human beings. Let’s come together on that.’”

It is the first extract from the upcoming "No Disturbance" Riddim Selection produced by White Stone Productions.

"X Boyfriend" by Singaporean-Canadian rap star Masia One is the passionate story of a love gone sour.

The Toronto-based star has recently been crowned Best Overall Female Artist and Social Media Champion by VIMA Asia Music Awards, and "X Boyfriend" had been nominated in the Best Pop Song category. White Stone Productions currently works on her new album "Lim And The Lion" on which Masia One proves that she is just as much as ease with reggae as she is with hip hop.

Alpha Leo, "Jesus Was Black" [Bay Area, CA] | "I was chosen by God himself"

Bay Area, California rapper Alpha Leo presents "Jesus Was Black", his new single produced by Royal Audio Tunes, which will appear on his forthcoming album David And Goliath 2, which will also feature production from Paul Cabbin, Kevin Barnes, and Nuggi Fresh Beats.

DG2 is the followup to the first installment released in 2012 (download DG1 on DatPiff).

His 2009 single "My Time Now" spent four weeks at the number one spot on Hartford, CT radio station KISS 95.7's Underground Countdown (link).

"God inspired me to record 'Jesus Was Black'," says Alpha.

"Western civilization likes to take away credit from the original man who is a man of color by exing our accomplishments out of history.

Jesus (Yeshuah) was born in a region that was populated by dark-skinned people some 2,000 years ago and the scriptures even give reference of his skin color and hair texture, so why do we constantly see images of him that contradict what the Scriptures say?

I am a Bay Area artist who was chosen by God himself to let the people know the truth and to battle against the lies of western civilization. Jesus was not a European, but he was black."
