R. Kelly Talks Cruel Summer Feature
R. Kelly provided what some acclaim as one of his best features on "To The World," off the long-awaited Cruel Summer album, and according to the R&B star he's thankful for the opportunity.Billboard.com caught up with the singer/songwriter who explained how the project came about.
"Kanye sent me a track he was working on.
I sent it back. He sent it back to me, I sent it back to him...until we had something," he said.
Both from Chicago, Kelly and West share a mutual respect.
"It felt good to both of us. He trusts my talent and I trust his talent. I knew Kanye way before he was known. We've always had fun in the clubs of wherever we were, just kickin' it, but we never had a chance to get in the studio before and hook up like this, and I'm just glad we finally got that chance. I'm just very honored to be on this track working with him."
Kelly may rock with West, but the same cannot be said for the rapper's "Big Brother," Jay-Z.
After releasing a collaborative album with Kelly, they embarked on a joint tour the result of which proved to be disastrous.
The singer was booted off the trek, alleged to have been threatened with a gun during a performance, and filed a $75 million lawsuit.
Jay counter sued, calling Kelly's legal filing a "calculated stunt designed to deflect attention from his upcoming felony trial involving an alleged sexual liaison with a 14-year-old child."
