Florida Man Defends His Crime By Telling Police " I Only Shot A N! "
Walter Henry Butler shot his Black neighbor in the face Monday (July 30) night, and allegedly admitted his crime to police, telling them “I only shot a ni**er!”
The Port St. Joe resident was reportedly “annoyed” by being arrested for shooting 32-year-old Everett Gant, with a .22 caliber rifle, at the Pine Ridge Apartments.
According to police, Butler, 59, has a history of showering Black children in the complex, with racial slurs. He reached a new level of disgusting behavior when he fired at Gant— who came to speak with him about his behavior— then closed his door, called 911, and finished preparing dinner.
“He was brought to the investigation unit where he was interviewed and basically admitted to shooting the victim and said he shot a, used a racial slur, and said that is what he shot and acted like it was not like a big deal or anything to him,”said Gulf County Sheriff Joe Nugent.
Butler is being held at the Gulf County Jail. He faces attempted murder, and hate crime charges.
Gant is in the hospital, and is expected to survive.
