Nas Explains Involvement In Concert Promoter's Kidnapping in Africa

After his actions may have led to a concert promoter being kidnapped and stranded in Angola, Nas is finally getting the chance to tell his side of the story.

In an interview with MTV's RapFix Live, the QB rapper briefly opened up about being accused of causing the debacle.

"I didn't want to touch on it because it seemed like he was in grave danger out there,"
he told Sway, explaining that not showing up for the show was not due to his own negligence. "Basically he's a promoter I never worked with and he wanted me to come to Africa .

The business wasn't handled there were no flights. I think everybody wanted me to get down there, and I wanted to get down there but.... wishful thinking. They didn't do things properly to get me down there.

That was just all wrong, when I'm supposed to go to Africa, people take care of me more or less, it happens."

As the story goes, Patrick Allocco booked Nas for a New Year's Eve concert in the African country. When Nas pulled out of the gig, Alloco and  his son were abducted by fellow promoter, Henrique "Riquhino" Miguel, who put up the $315,000 to get Esco on board. The U.S.

Embassy later came to the rescue of the Allocco family, but banned them from leaving the country. 42-days later the hold was lifted and they were allowed to leave and return to New Jersey.

Nas may have trouble paying Uncle Sam but he's far from shady when it comes to other money situations. He returned the money to the promoter not long after hearing of the kidnappings.

Beanie Sigel Talks Loving Drake's Music, Says Beef With Jay-Z Is Dead

SXSW showing a blustering crowd on the streets of Austin, Texas that he still has bars, Beanie Sigel recently popped up on Power 95.3's Lady T's Show in Orlando, FL.  Surprisingly, the tough as nails Beanie Mack had some positive words for, Drake, one of the more softer acts in the rap game and also said his long underlying beef with Hov is deaded for good.

“Drake nice,” said the Broad Street Bully. “You can't front on him.

Drake gonna be around for a long time… His lane is so crazy. I bought his album like three times. He got everything. It's everything on there that you can rock to.” Sig even said he thinks Drizzy may be ghostwriting for some cats in the industry.

When asked if he still had a problem with Jay-Z, Beanie said, despite having yet to meet Jigga face-to-face to straighten things out, he has no quarrels with his former boss. "It ain't really no situation right now," said Sigel. "At the end of the day, Jay, that's my brother, and will forever be my brother."
"We had a litte misunderstanding.

[It was a] situation where I couldn't get to him, so I had to via, MC it. And that was it," he added.

Rap Release Dates: Lauryn Hill, Big K.R.I.T., Waka Flocka Flame, 50 Cent

Lauryn Hill and Game announce albums sans dates, 50 Cent announces a date sans title, while Big K.R.I.T. and Waka Flocka Flame provide both.

At the risk of disappointing Hip Hop fans in the future months, there is a lot to look forward to on the album release front. Sure we lose out to pushbacks, project scrapping, and title changes, but hey, at least the hope is there. This week's announcements are all full of hope. Let's see what sticks and what doesn't.

Lauryn Hill has evolved into quite the elusive (and polarizing) figure as of late. Once the shift over to "Ms. Hill" came, the idea of ever getting another studio album following the epic The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill seemed like a total fantasy. Well fear not: Ms. Hill has announced that her second solo studio album will be titled The Return.

Hill announced she'll be performing at London's O2 Arena on April 14th, and then dropped the even bigger news that there will be another album. We reported earlier in the month that Game has also titled his R.E.D. Album follow-up as F.I.V.E.: Fear Is Victory’s Evolution. So now there's a mixtape (California Republic) and an album for Game. He's never not working. Both Lauryn Hill and Game have yet to release dates for these projects.

Who has a release date is 50 Cent. Curtis revealed his album will be dropping on July 2nd.

While the album was supposed to be titled Black Magic, it's currently listed as his untitled fifth studio album.

Black Magic was supposed to be a Dance meets Rock fusion album. That may or may not still be the case. If it is, Pauly D might get in on that action.

In other news, Bow Wow moved Underrated to June 12th. He shares that date with Waka Flocka Flame's Triple F Life: Friends, Fans & Family. Additionally, Big K.R.I.T. will finally be releasing Live From the Underground. That comes a week earlier on June 5th.

Nicki Minaj x Madonna Share A Birthday Kiss

It’s not really news anymore that Madonna likes to conquer pop’s leading ladies, and Nicki Minaj has been her latest woman of the hour. Back in December when the trio of M.I.A., Nicki and Madge were all filming for “Give Me All Your Luvin” the internet was set ablaze with the news that the Harajuku Barbie and the legendary singer shared a Birthday kiss. “In the presence of greatness. MADONNA / OH MY f’ingggg Gahhhh!!!!! MADONNA jus kissed me!!!!! On the lips!!!!!!! It felt sooooo good. Soooo soft!!!! *passes out* aaahhhhh!!!!!!!!! / *kisses each one of my barbz so they too can taste queen madonna* I love u guys sooo much!!!! This video is of epic proportion! Love uuuu!!!” The ladies celebrated with cupcakes and champagne as Nicki was serenaded with “Happy Birthday” and received what’s likely to be one of her best birthday gifts to date– that Madonna kiss. And of course, in true Madonna form, she took that kiss when they were in all white. Sounds like a fetish to us… Well now we’ve got the visuals for all of you who have been patiently waiting (and hoping that the kiss was going to be a part of the music video) to take a look at the “romantic” kiss as Nicki dubbed it. Who do you think is next on Madonna’s list?

And Another One: Bobby Brown Popped For DUI

It’s obvious that in today’s world of hip hop and R&B, there have been way too many legends and great artists lost.

This rings especially true for the last couple of months since Whitney Houston’s death that there have been some questionable behaviors amongst those who Whitney left behind.

While her daughter doesn’t necessarily seem to be all too crazy– it looks like Bobby Brown is still hurting for a multitude of things. One of which, we’re sure, is that he is unable to see his daughter Bobbi Kristina.

Just the other night the former New Edition singer was pulled over for what police suspected was a bit of cell phone usage, but upon administering a sobriety test the CHP ended up cuffing him into the back of a black and white.

And this isn’t Brown’s first run in with the law (as we’re sure you all know), and it certainly isn’t his first DUI. Though it’s being labeled DUI, no one is completely sure whether or not it is your typical alcohol related incident, or whether Bobby had been medicating himself with another illegal substance.

Which is worse, the DUI and going to jail? Or being ridiculed for your decisions to be beau’d up with your supposed adopted brother?

Nas Makes His First Trip To ‘RapFix Live’

Nas will make his first appearance on "RapFix Live" this Wednesday, when he drops in to chat with Sway about his upcoming 10th album Life is Good and his debut Illmatic, which will hit the 18th anniversary mark in April. The Queensbridge MC proved that he is just as vicious as ever when he dropped his latest single, "The Don," earlier this month. Backed by a reggae-tinged beat (co-produced by the late Heavy D), "The Don" finds Nas delivering lyrics with the tenacity of hungry teen who is looking for his first break. It's a vibe that Esco successful captured on his 2011 single "Nasty" as well. If "The Don" and "Nasty" are any indication, Nas' 10th LP, Life is Good, is already shaping up to be one of the most-anticipated rap albums of the year. We're sure he will have plenty to say about his upcoming release as well as his career in retrospect. Atlanta MC Killer Mike will also be stopping by the "RapFix" set this week. Killa Kill made his rap debut on OutKast's unforgettable 2000 album Stankonia and has since carved out a unique lane for his brand of street-laced, politically charged raps. Last year, Mike partnered with T.I.'s Grand Hustle label and dropped PL3DGE, the third album of his I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind series. Next up, Mike is partnering with former Company Flow MC/producer El-P to release their collaborative R.A.P. Music LP. The album's first single, "Big Beast," features Bun B, T.I. and Atlanta newcomer Trouble. Catch Nas and Killer Mike on "RapFix Live" Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com, and be sure to join the Twitter conversation using the hashtags #RapFixLive. Send your questions for the artists to @MTVRapFiX!

Whitney Houston’s Hotel Room Off The Radar

The room Whitney Houston died in can’t be booked by guests.

TMZ has confirmed that the fourth floor room Whitney stayed in has had its room number – 434 – taken down with hotel staff members.

Sources tell the site that the number was taken down “after scores of prospective hotel guests called to request the room.” Sigh. Thankfully, there are no immediate plans to make the room available to your creepy cousins guests again.

Meanwhile, a Dutch newspaper is claiming that Raffles van Exel, a man known to be around the late pop icon, has admitted to cleaning out Houston’s hotel room before investigators appeared.

He is quoted saying, “Someone had to do it.

The room was empty.”

I’ve watched enough of Scooby Doo and The Mystery Machine to know that someone’s about to get investigated one way or the other.

Media Personality Touré Jokes About Trayvon Martin’s Murder Via Twitter

If you decide to use Twitter for evil, you must be prepared to catch the Internet fade.

Media personality, and part-time buffoon, Touré learned this lesson earlier today when he posted an insensitive joke on his Twitter feed

“New slang! You’re Zimmering me = You’re killing me,” he wrote regarding the senseless shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
The Florida teen was shot dead by 28-year-old George Zimmerman, who allegedly mistook him for a trespassing criminal despite the fact that he was unarmed and visiting family in a gated community.Touré, who is no stranger to pulling and then trading in his race card, so long as it fits his agenda, felt the immediate error of his ways. He became a trending topic—which is exactly what he wanted seeing as how he seems to make ridiculous ignorant comments just to get a rise out of people—and posted a half-hearted apology, but not before complaining
“You know the Trayvon twitter convo is wildly out of control when a self-defined progressive white person calls me rabidly racist. O.k,” he wrote.

Finally coming to his senses (or maybe just feeling the heat from the Twitterverse) he wrote, “Fine. It was a bad “joke.” Obviously not meant to be heartless. Days & days of intellectual discourse re Trayvon went over some heads I see. My position on Trayvon has been clear for days. I shouldn’t have attacked his murderer with a facetious attempt at dark humor.”
This guy deserves a swift beat down. Aside from the fact that he’s being insensitive, as a Black man, one would think that he would use his platform to shed light on an injustice rather than make jokes about it.

Nas Talks The Rise & Fall Of Ringtone Rap

Nas bemoans the Chingy era of Hip Hop, but says that ultimately, natural selection made sure only the real survived.

For Hip Hop purists, the ringtone rap era of Hip Hop was an artistic dark ages that gave witness to the sudden rise and fall of one-hit wonders like Mike Jones, J-Kwon and Chingy. Now, one of New York's finest weighs in on why the "pop fluff" era of rap came and went so quickly during the 2000s.

In a recent interview with former manager Steve Stoute at SXSW, Queensbridge legend Nas discussed his hatred for the "Chingy era" of Hip Hop. He explained that while ringtone-driven rap did hurt Hip Hop culture, it also gave real emcees a timeout from the business side of music. He explained that because the standard of music was so low at that time, established acts didn't have to worry as much about competition, and that ultimately, natural selection weeded out the lesser emcees.

"I have to be totally honest, I didn't feel anything about Chingy or anybody else's success during that time," he explained. "Tell you the truth, it kind of gave me some time off. Time off to not have to keep coming and coming and coming.
It just balances things - you can't have everything…it is messed up for that real stuff when the pop-fluff stuff is everywhere; that does damage to things. But when you have faith in the artists that you love, you know they gonna pull through and bring something to the table."
